Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the nursing profession perception of nursing students.

Methods: Data were collected with a questionnaire distributed to 305 nursing students in U city. Data were collected fromMarch 30 to June 15, 2019. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS 22.0 program.

Results: There were significantdifferences in the level of interpersonal trust (F=5.42, p<.001), empathy ability (F=3.13, p=.015), interpersonal relationshipability (F=3.64, p=.006) and nursing profession perception (F=11.95, p<.001) on the major satisfaction. The levelof interpersonal trust (r=.21, p<.001), empathy ability (r=.27, p<.001) and interpersonal relationship ability (r=.28,p<.001) were positively correlated with nursing profession perception. Also empathy ability (r=.11, p=.047), interpersonalrelationship ability (r=.49, p<.001) with interpersonal trust and correlation of empathy ability with interpersonal relationshipability (r=.32, p<.001) were positively correlated with each other. The significant variables that influence the nursingprofession perception were grade, major satisfaction, empathy ability and interpersonal relationship ability. These factorswere responsible for 21.3%.

Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that educational programs are necessary toraise the nursing perception of nursing students and reduce the turnover of nurses.
